Lard With Apples / Apfelschmalz

I've been making so much bread recently that I decided I needed something new to put on it.

Adapted from a recipe on
25g smoked bacon, finely chopped
1/2 onion, finely chopped
1/2-3/4 tart apple, peeled, cored, and cut into very small pieces
125g pork lard

Fry bacon until crispy. Add onion and fry until golden brown. Add apple and lard, and stir until lard is melted. Pour into a serving dish and sprinkle marjoram on top. Cool until fat congeals. Spread on your favorite kind of whole-grain bread.

Makes: enough to stop your heart
